Google Adwords - Pay per click |

Google’s Adwords and Adsence

Adsense is a great way of making money from the internet. Adsense is Google’s opportunity for web site owners and advertisers to use their site to place Google’s ‘Pay per click’ ad’s from the Adwords program.
First you have to understand Google’s Adwords, Adwords was designed for web sites to get to the top of Google’s and it’s partners search engine results by charging for little boxed ad’s next to it's natural search results.

How it works

Here's how it works, go to www.google.co.uk and do a UK only search for the term ‘baby gifts’, the no.1 site coming back on the natural search results is www.baby-gifts.co.uk, the whole top 10 results are compiled by Google's complex and secret algorithm. If your site is not lucky enough to appear in the top 20 and you sell ‘Baby gifts’ then you may want to sign up for Google’s Adwords program.

If you look at the results for search term ‘Baby Gifts’ you will see little boxes down the right hand side and the top of your screen showing Ad’s for sites selling baby gifts. These sites are in the Adwords program. If you were to click on one of those ad’s it would cost the site owner a ‘Pay per click’ fee, (money in Google’s bank account).

The sites at the top of the page are paying about 65p a click and sites at the bottom about 40p a click. So basically you are bidding on lucrative search term keywords like ‘baby gifts’, ‘christening gifts’ 'Web design' 'Search engine optimisation' and so on. The longer, less popular and less lucrative search term say like ‘baby gifts for a newborn boy’ would only cost you maybe 25p for top placement and 10p for the bottom of page.

Adwords is a very advance and powerful ‘Pay per click’ internet adverting system, you bid for ‘Keywords’ that target the right customer to your site, you set a daily budget on how much you are prepared to pay and Google do the rest. I read in 'The Times' newspaper recently that the low cost airline ‘Easy Jet’ are paying Google a reported £15,000 a day on Google Adwords, no wonder Google is the biggest media company in the world.

The Google Network

When you sign up for Adwords, you have a choice to display your ad’s on Google search engine only or Google’s network of sites and partners. Personally in all my Adword’s campaigns to date I always show my ad’s on Google only, as I feel showing ad’s on the network is a compete waste of money.

The Google network’ is you! If you have signed up and been approved by Google for it’s Adsense program, Adsence is a way for you to tap into some of Google large advertising income by placing their ad’s on your site, when a visitor to your site clicks on a Google Adwords ad, you make money.

So if your site was showing ‘baby gifts’ ad’s and someone clicked on one of the top paying ad's(65p) you would make about 21p from Google. Even thought Google keeps it a secret on what the percentage is on your share of the ‘Pay per click’ ad, research says it’s about one third.

That's the basic write up on Google's Adwords

We also have a page about search engine optimisation (SEO), because this is your goal as a web site owner, getting off the Adwords program and getting into the natural search engine results, will save you thousands in the long run.

So to recap : GOOGLE ADWORDS - YOU PAY GOOGLE TO ADVERTISE YOUR SITE.

GOOGLE ADSENSE - GOOGLE PAYS YOU TO SHOW AD'S FROM THE ADWORDS PROGRAM ON YOUR SITE.
